In Spain, Father’s Day falls on 19 March instead of the third Sunday of June as in many other countries. The reason for this is to make it coincide with Saint Joseph’s Day, the day that honours Joseph the husband of Mary and the adoptive father of Jesus. He is considered the ultimate example of a good father.

To celebrate, Spaniards usually have a big family dinner to honour their father, grandfathers, and other father-like figures in their life.
This day is only a public holiday in certain regions of Spain, however. It is especially celebrated in Valencia, where it coincides with Las Fallas, a traditional festivity held to honour Saint Joseph.
